Why don't we try to respect one another.

« on: January 23, 2010, 03:33:08 PM »

A caregiver for an 81 year old blind lady is sentenced to 45 days in jail for stealing $100,000 from her.

The caregiver's husband had to be removed from the courtroom for protesting the harshness of the sentence!

Maybe this is why we no lnoger have respect for our justice system.

Heck, I would consider going to jail for $2222.22 a day.

BTW the caregiver was charging the lady $100 per day to care for her.

What do you think of this sentence?

I wouldn't want that on my conscious or record.

Welcome, Terry Kath

I'm a little like Holden Caulfield - the things I hate more than anything else are hypocrisy and pretension. They make my skin crawl. And I would put stealing from ANYONE and arrogance in the same category.  I think the husband's arrogance is revealing that he was part of this crime. he should of also been charged.

The jail sentence is another crime by it's self. I could puke. What happened to the good ole lynch mob?!

Thank you for the welcome  Cool

Grin I was only using the green color for effect - going to puke on the Judge. Hope it made you feel the same way!

Restitution has been ordered and the caregiver has promised to repay "as much as she is able". The victim will probably not see much unless the judge steps in again.

More puke is okay Terry Kath.

To me all theft is deplorable but from an 81 year old blind woman or the case in Bedford from the young kids, it reaches new lows.

In this case the caregiver was new and it appears she started stealing as soon as she was hired. I suspect it was all planned and possibly not the first time.

Who's worse, the judge for the soft sentence or the caregiver?  Pretty Sad

Well, the judge did seem awfully lenient, but they have to work with what is given them. I am sure the defense portrayed the caregiver as somewhere above Jesus on the humanitarian scale.

Sometimes a deployarble legal sytem but still my pick fom those I have seen.

Well, maybe the UCMJ is as good or better.
