I know NOTHING!

« on: April 22, 2010, 08:03:01 AM »

First:  I'm one of those Steeler and Penn State fans who do believe that their organizations are a cut above the rest in terms of expectations of player conduct.

Second:  I would not mind at all if the Steelers traded Ben to Oakland for Nnamdi Asomugha and Oakland's first round draft pick.

Third:  I have no problem with the Commissioner's suspension or with Rooney's support of it.  I also have no problem with Ben's teammates support for him because that is what teammates do.

Fourth:  I hope that Ben is able to get his life back on track because he has certainly let fame and fortune wreck it at this point.  I'm not going to be judgemental about what has happened because I have never been in his shoes, but he is certainly an embarrassment and disappointment to his family, friends, fans and team at this point in time.

Fifth:  Everyone is entitled to their opinions about anything, but not their own facts.  If you don't like my opinion, that is your prerogative.

Here's two reasons why the Steelers should trade Ben asap:

1) He's going to be going back to court to defend at least one, possibly even two civil lawsuits which will likely turn into more tabloid news and embarassment for the Steelers organization.

2) Ben is only another concussion or two away from having to retire anyhow so he might be out of the league completely by the time he reaches 30 years of age.

I agree with Oldster on this one.

I like Ben, but his current actions speak much louder than any achievement on the field of play.  He should be so ashamed of himself but yet he isn't.  Has he even apologized to his team mates or their fans?

Has anyone heard Ben's side of the story yet?  Or do we just believe the tales of 20 year old drunks who don't want to take any responsibility for their own actions that night?  No charges were filed and yet a head suit suspended Ben for six games.  That's crap.

Like I said if I'm Ben I tell Artii to trade me.  I also tell Artii that his team will suck without me and Santonio Holmes who he just gave away.  I will then laugh my way to the bank and instantly make my new team much better and revel in the Steelers going 4-12 as Mike Tomlin watches hell be unleashed all around him.  It will also be great watching the sanctimonious hypocrites of Steeler nation yearn for the good old days of 2008 while cheering for James Harrison and Jeff Reed.

First off, I do agree with you..........he shouldn't have been punished.  if the Steelers want to get rid of him, well, they sign the paycheck.  It should be up to them.  I just think the fans should drop the "clean organization" facade.

Now, about Bathroom Ben.............he kind of won't talk about the whole thing, so it's hard to get his side of the story.  He lied to the police (isn't that a crime?)...............first he never touched her (he wouldn't give her the time of day was his exact quote, he had high standards apparently) , then she hit her head, then we did have sex but it was consensual.  With the stories from her firends, the actions of his thug bodyguards, the previous accusations, the actions of the first police officer on the scene, the cleaning of the bathroom and it not being made a crime scene, the missing video, the buying an underage girl booze (also a crime, right?).............I know, all circumstantial.......... ..but you have to admit where there is smoke............like I said, he picked the right town to do it in...............Mayberr y RFD.

#7 has plead the 5th Amendment........

No player should be bigger than the team, and obviously #7 has achieved this status......I agree with oldster and Citizen X........In addition, #7, like Holmes, is one incident away from missing an entire season or more.......i don't know how you win championships and make a bunch more money when you're suspended for a year or two......I am not sure how you make a team better when you're missing the entire year......Sure, it may not happen, but do you take that risk with the past behavior and history of these two Super Bowl hero's?

Everyone is going to miss 2011.  Also, after 2011 Roger Goodell won't have the power he has now.  Think Bud Selig.  Had Ben played baseball he wouldn't have missed one game.  The MLBPA wouldn't have stood for Selig even getting involved.  Ben's suspension will be wiped off the books and he'll begin 2012 with a clean slate.  Gene Upshaw is dead.  The NFLPA will come out of the 2011 lockout much stronger and will rival the MLBPA.

Ben has as much chance tearing a ligament in his knee trying to make a tackle following a Rashard Mendenhall fumble then he does being suspended for a year.

Buying an underage girl (a 20 year old not a minor) a beer could be a summary offense resulting in a small fine.  It's the same as driving 46 in a 35.

I'm guessing that Ben didn't give his conquest his phone number and that made her very mad.

It's only a game.....our lives go on no matter who the QB is or who is playing centerfield.  Sure it's nice for your hometown team to win, but what does it matter if #7 is shipped out of town.....The Pirates have had a loser for 17 years and counting......they are still in business......fans are still cheering them on and showing up at the ball park.......The Steelers will be just fine.....we extended Byron Leftwich's contract thru 2011.........and he will be inducted into the Marshall Hall of Fame today.

I think it was Artii that pushed for six games.
