Westmont blight going unchecked

Several years ago, Westmont Borough officials clenched their legislative fists, fought the fight and won in a controversy to regulate boats and campers.

Later, borough government again clenched its fist, fought the fight and won against a plan that might have opened new or expanded businesses.

Now (and for some time), borough government apparently can barely lift a pinky to solve housing and property blight, likely not a problem in government’s back yard but all-too-present in at least one neighborhood. This ongoing blight problem, unlike banned expansion of business, can spread while government limply waves a hand in obvious welcome.

hmmm.

I?am replying to the two Westmont waa babies who complained about the noise of Thunder in the Valley.

Those of us who survived the devastation of floods, loss of life and the prosperity of the steel mills appreciate the joy and energy this event brings to our little town.

Not to mention the money it brings in to help the many churches, charities, small businesses and other organizations from this area.

Of course there will always be folks who think only of themselves and would prefer to sit in front of a TV?on a summer weekend rather then get out and meet old friends, make new ones, and, heaven forbid, have some fun.

I suppose they would do away with all the festivals, too, especially the ones with the polka bands because attendees might offend others by stomping their feet to the music.

Some of you will try to ruin it for the rest of us who look forward to this great time, but that’s not going to happen.

I was downtown for the four days of Thunder and saw thousands of people having a blast. I, my family and friends can’t wait for Thunder to start rolling in; sure wish it lasted longer but hopefully the bikers will be back next year and bring more of their friends.

Ms. Guasteferro, maybe next year you can wear headphones to block the noise.

If you hate noise, why would you buy a house at a busy intersection?

I had to check the T-D site and sure enough, the writer said "waa babies."

"Waa babies."

You are old enough to remember the flood(s) and demise of steel.

"Waa babies."

Alrighty then.

Westy fighting back.
— Mr. Abram is obviously new to the borough of Westmont. Most residents who cherish our municipality know that a phone call to the borough office would produce a prompt response from the office manager, public works director or any of the elected council officials.

This constructive approach often – very often – produces immediate positive results.

The borough is interested in specific problems so that it can provide specific solutions. Saying that we have “property blight” without any additional information is counterproductive to what I hope is a genuine concern for the overall beauty of our borough.

With regard to issues that impact the quality of life that we enjoy, please alert the office, the public works director or any of the seven elected men and women who represent your best interests.

Finally, Mr. Abrams, solving problems is always preferable to just pointing a finger at them.
