The signs are up at the old BiLo in the Westwood Plaza and I think they sign said opening August 28th or 29th.  That moved quickly.

Opening Sunday 8-29.

The thing that brought that whole deal together was when Giant Eagle agreed to take the Goucher Street store corporate.  They had a lot of the work done and also product inside for about 2-3 months now.  According to those I have talked to this almost didn't happen because of the competition issues raised with that store.  Also not sure how much GetGo played into the issue with the decision to sell the Goucher Street location nor if he sold Ligonier as well to corporate.  Not surprised Shapira is trying another discount type store albeit without the prescriptions.  This should compete well with Save-A-Lot and Aldi's.  Hopefully they have a 5 for $19.99 meat deal like Save-A-Lot.  Also not sure if they will charge for bags like Save-A-Lot or Aldi's but I will take my own just in case.  Those canvas bags they sell everywhere are pretty nice to carry groceries in.

....from what i understand, Giant Eagle was going ahead with the Value-King store, which is in direct competition with the Goucher St Giant Eagle, and pi$$ed off the owners......you have a Giant Eagle down in West End, now the Value King......the Goucher St store stands to lose customers............plu s, now the corporate store will probably not buy items that have been purchased with local wholesalers, so that sucks also.......

It's nice.  Seems cleaner that the Save-A-Lot, but you do have to bring your own bags/boxes.  And it was really busy...grand opening and all.

Go to Dollar General and pick up their bags for 50 cents.  Also hopefully ValuKing will sell their own recycling type bags like all the others do.

I still have to get over there but will do so soon.

I checked the store out last eve as my husband was on some business there. It's just another Save-A-Lot basically. A junk store that makes people believe it has good prices, when in fact it does not! And yes they have bags for 5 cents each. Not only are they not cheaper than other stores, you have to pay for bags and pack your own groceries. Again just another gimmick store!!! Nothing to see here......move along....Next?

I can't see that kinda store working for a predominantly Westmont crowd.

Surprised that Westmont crowd could not keep that High End Gourmet Bilo open.

My husband has been in the food industry for 20 some years. Let me explain how these stores operate. They will put a huge quantity of a product at the door when you walk in that is cheap. This store had del grosso sauce for a buck, which at times Market Basket sells for less than a buck! Then they have a bunch of generic products mixed with some brand name products in the middle of the store. The name brand products are no cheaper than other grocery stores around town and in some instances more expensive. The generic brands are just that, cheap, but who really likes them? The objective here is to make the consumer believe that by packing their own groceries and paying for bags, that they are getting deep discounts when in fact they are not! It's a win, win situation for the store owners because they do not have to pay for extra help for packing and do not have to pay for bags! Then they hire a few cashiers at minimum wage. This is why you see theses types of stores popping up everywhere. They are a gimmick, and people fall for it! People assume their prices on name brands would naturally be cheaper when they are not! So if you are a person who likes, and buys generic products, then that store is fine, but just be aware that dollar stores do carry the same products that are, again, often times cheaper than these so called value stores.

Good analogy. That has Wal Mart written all over it. I am probably one of the few that despise Wal Mart.
