As most of you know I had finally gotten a job at a local store. I have actually had four different jobs within the last year. The first two were temporary. Right after I started the third job "which was another store", I had received the call from the store which I am now employed at. I didn't think they would hire me as I had tried at this particular store for over three years. A month after I started at the first store, I had learned that I had gotten the job at other store. I couldn't work both stores since they are competitors. The second store offered me better wages and hours and was closer, so I took the bait. I have worked at the current store for a little over four months and like my job.

So here's the issue. My mom wants me to go for a  position  at where my stepfather works. For the first few months, I will work 10 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is full time and has a better pay. My mom and rest of the family is really pushing the issue. My problem is I don't want to keep leaving jobs constantly. Look how many I had since September, 2009. Doesn't that look bad on a resume? I also like where I am at and wanted to stick around for a while. I don't want to be at the store forever either. And I can't work both considering the latter's mandatory schedule.

....if you like your current job, I'd stick with it.........a lot of people do not enjoy their jobs, and that can make the whole work environment suck.  Sometimes the 'grass is not greener' on the other side.....even if you'll be making a little more money...........and, who is the 'rest of the family'?  hopefully not the thieves you talked about before..........Sometime s working with relatives is not an ideal situation.......and you're right about the changing of jobs frequently....it raises 'question marks' when you change jobs that frequently....if i am an employer, and i see that, it raises red flags.........sometimes there is an explanantion, but in this case, i do not see a good one......(what are you gonna say, my parents wanted me to take this job?)

......maybe there will be chance for advancement in your current job.  This would be something that i would look into.......

You're young.  Do what you want to do.

Employers tend to look at how long you have been at a job.  We like to see stability.

Why don't we try to respect one another.

Having a lot of jobs can be bad, but it is usually not if there is a good reason for the moves e.g. better jobs, layoffs, company cutbacks or closures etc.

Find a job you love and you will never work a day in your life.

I wouldn't worry about appearances on a resume, just take the time to explain why so many job changes.
It sounds like your mom and family want to see you move into a job that can be a career, hence, no more job changes.
I'd take the family advice and "try" for a position where stepdad works if the job description suits ya. Who knows, it may be ayear or so until somethin opens up and you'll be in a better position to decide if you want it or not.

If the job is secure and pays well, you'll probably have it for a career. Workin in a store might be better suited for non-career people who need somethin to hold onto while they try to land the career job. It's like workin at Glosser bros, and having a shot at gettin in the mill. What are ya gonna do? I'd say mill for the career.  BUT HEY..............

Thanks for all the advice. I decided to apply for the position and see where it goes. If I don't get this. I will see about moving up in the store where I work now. But not for a couple of months.  Jehovahsman, you were right. My family wants me to have a job that can become my career. During my time in college, I actually wanted to become a Realtor. But that got put on hold until the housing market got better.

It's gonna be a buyers market for a long, long, long time. Maybe even longer than that.
I hope you get a position where your step daddy works and you fall nto a position that makes you happy to get out of bed everyday.

True, but a lot of employers, seeing an inconsistent work history, won't give the time to discover the reasons.

Good to see you back Charlie. How was SCI Graterford?
