Good for him! It's nice to have the record so close to home.

Already had the record. This is just a big milestone. And a record. Broke his own record of 399. It was a great come from behind win.

Yes it was! Started watching it at Chili's while having dinner and being disappointed, turned it on when we got home and it turned into an awesome game. Even though I am not a Penn State fan.....

400 for Paterno.... but an asterisk should be noted for the true coaches of the team and win.

Tom Bradley and Mike McQueary are the real day to day and game coaches, not Paterno.  The university and town are enablers to Paterno who should have been told to retire years ago.

As great as he once was is now a sad old man that doesn't know players names and the team he's playing at times.

400 wins, great for the school and a legendary coach but for the last 5-8 years; I'll give credit to his staff but not to Paterno.  His recruiting has dropped off and I believe is a direct result of a head coach who can't guarantee he'll be alive at the players graduation.

Sorry PSU... but that's my take.

FYI, Mike McQueary is thought of as the coach that does the least.  They Jay or Galen call a play from the box, they send it down to McCreary who either signals it in or sends it in with a player.

FYI, last year Penn State, by all accounts (most every recruiting site) had a top 10 recrutiing class.  They were in line to get that kid from South Carolina (Marcus Lattimore, most people thought he was going to Penn State until the last minute) which would have given them the number one spot.  They have had several top 10 classes the past decade, so it's kind of hard to make that poor recruiting thing stick.

If you look at most head coaches during a game, they really don't do much, do they?

Your point is well taken, however.  I do agree he has delegated some responsibilities.  Most coaches do.  I think the loyalty of his staff has to speak volumes about how he operates.

And he's the one that wanted to play McGloin.  His son said last week that the job was Bolden's.  Lucky guess, huh?

If Bill Cowher gets that itch to coach again  I'd be willing to bet on Carolina. Maybe Dallas too if JJ throws enough cash his way.

Your argument would be more convincing if they were not 57-16 over the past 6 seasons, including 3 11 win seasons, 4 bowl victories, and 2 big ten titles.  Just saying.

Just passin' on a quote yoyo.

They are no SEC team I'm sure you'll agree.  I listen to more than a few sports shows which say the same.  I believe they are unbiased in their professional opinion.

If you want to disagree that's ok.  But I'll stick with my assumption. After all if they were getting the top recruits they would be able to play with the Bama's of the world.  No one here has said they are a poor program.  It's just not the year of the lion.

I appreciate the fact you aren't try to sale kool aid and have one believe Paterno and the program can do no wrong.
