400 for Paterno.... but an asterisk should be noted for the true coaches of the team and win.
Tom Bradley and Mike McQueary are the real day to day and game coaches, not Paterno. The university and town are enablers to Paterno who should have been told to retire years ago.
As great as he once was is now a sad old man that doesn't know players names and the team he's playing at times.
400 wins, great for the school and a legendary coach but for the last 5-8 years; I'll give credit to his staff but not to Paterno. His recruiting has dropped off and I believe is a direct result of a head coach who can't guarantee he'll be alive at the players graduation.
Sorry PSU... but that's my take.
FYI, Mike McQueary is thought of as the coach that does the least. They Jay or Galen call a play from the box, they send it down to McCreary who either signals it in or sends it in with a player.
FYI, last year Penn State, by all accounts (most every recruiting site) had a top 10 recrutiing class. They were in line to get that kid from South Carolina (Marcus Lattimore, most people thought he was going to Penn State until the last minute) which would have given them the number one spot. They have had several top 10 classes the past decade, so it's kind of hard to make that poor recruiting thing stick.
If you look at most head coaches during a game, they really don't do much, do they?
Your point is well taken, however. I do agree he has delegated some responsibilities. Most coaches do. I think the loyalty of his staff has to speak volumes about how he operates.
