Just to look at OldPa now it's pretty clear that what's left of his mind still wants to continue coaching however his tired face and mannerisms are telling the rest of us a completely different story.

• Senior offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski became the first Lions player to be named to the ESPN Academic All-American team for three consecutive seasons. He was joined on the first team by teammates Pete Massaro and Chris Colasanti. Wisniewski, a three-year starter from Central Catholic High School, is enrolled in the prestigious Schreyer Honors College, has a 3.91 grade-point average and will graduate next month after 3 1/2 years. Massaro, a redshirt sophomore defensive end, has a 3.83 GPA in finance. Colasanti, a fifth-year senior linebacker, has a 3.61 in kinesiology/pre-medicine. For the third consecutive season, Penn State leads all schools in the NCAA's University Division in first-team Academic All-Americans.

.....some of the gossip i have heard and read:

...the Outback Bowl will be JoePa's last game.............

....He has some major health issues which include a frequency of mini strokes called TIAs and plans
are in motion behind the scenes including several private jets filled with Paterno family members flying to the bowl game since it will be his last. The assistants have been told that Joes successor will be hired from outside the staff which is why Scrap Iron, Big Red, Vandy and everyone else is looking around at other positions. Bradley and Vandy both interviewed with Temple in recent days and Big Red will likely follow Bradley to whatever job he lands. Golden called PSU before taking the Miami job and PSU told him our next hire will be from outside PSU. Leading candidates seem to be Tony Dungy, Chris Petersen(Boise), Dan Mullen (Miss State, former OC at Florida under Meyer and native of Philadelphia/Ursinus/PSU grad father)   There seems to be a great deal more interest in PSU than there was for Miami, Michigan, etc. Some insiders seem to like the idea of Dungy coming in for 5-7 years and restoring PSU to the top tier, then Golden coming back to lead the program long term after he gets more experience on the bigger stage that Miami has to offer. 

....Apparently at the Senior Banquet, JoePa was out of it......Players had said JoePa told them he was looking forward to playing in the Thanksgiving Day Bowl................the admin had called all living Captains and asked that they write a letter to Joe, which was presented in a book....almost like a send off........He read the book and then stormed off saying he had to prepare to beat his good ole buddy Spurrier in the bowl game..........They also say he is no longer permitted to drive.....and short term memory is gone.....


....Not sure what to think, we'll have to wait and see..........Have you heard anything similar YoYo or PSURocks?

Yes, I read it on the comment board on an ESPN story.  Jim Wiggin was the name of the guy that posted it.  I don't buy it.  First off, I don't see any way Penn State goes outside the program for a head coach.  I heard the man talk several times in the past week, and he certainly knows who is coaching Florida.  He's talked about it time and time again, it being Meyer's last game and all.  I don't think he forgot all of a sudden.   Also, does this sound like a guy that is ready to retire?

I'm sure he is just a Penn State hater that is just trying to rile up things.  No one inside the program has said anything about Paterno being in poor health, etc.   As tight lipped as the Penn State program can be, I'm sure things would have leaked out.
