I love how they have two hour delays due to cold.

Meanwhile, the younger kids go outside and play no matter how cold it is.  The older kids will be at the mall, YMCA or Planet Ice no matter how cold it is.  I don't get it - a two hour delay so the temperature can rise from 6 degrees to 10 degrees?

It was 5 yesterday morning at 7:50.  It was 21 when I dropped the kids off at 10:10.

It was 12 this morning at 7:10.  In fairness to GJSD, it was 8 when I got downtown this AM.

Older kids don't wear coats.  Coats aren't cool.

So then what is that magic temperature where suddenly everyone under the age of eighteen is in danger?

Just my opinion, but maybe the superintendant is pretty sure that if a student slides on ice at a playground while school is dismissed the parents will just deal with it but if they fall on school property, because they are required to be there, some attorney will make sure they get a lot of money for it.

At my kids school they have it posted  10 degrees with a wind chill of 0.

Anything 0 degrees and below no matter the wind chill.

You all make fun but the military has very similar standards for training.  It is is a certain temp you get to start stripping off your uniform.  I have never been where it was cold enough for them to stop training though and I was stationed in Germany for 2 1/2 years.

“The reason, the district said, is ‘for the safety of our students.’ ”

District officials went on to explain that, “As you know, with the Super Bowl comes a lot of Super Bowl parties and such. We just feel it’s best not to have our students out very early with people who have been up late.”

OMG, I'm laughing my a$$ off at that comment. How in the world would it be the fault of the school if some ignorant person whom was up late, mulled over an innocent by stander? Come on! What happened to personal responsibility?

I wonder how many parents will be outraged when their kid gets fired from his/her first job because he/she did not go to work because it was too cold.

No doubt.  Liability and lawsuits drive more decisions today than ever.

Think of all the beef cattle that would starve to death if we only had fair weather farmers.    The crops would never get tended.  Oh that's right the government pays people not to farm and raise cattle anymore so are they doing that to keep us out of the weather?  Grin
