Very good, Pbal.   With all the hype that is going on over the Japan Plant, I was just wondering if people really understand that the safe guards that are in place in a nuke plant are very, very good.
There are 4 levels of containment, although to watch the news you would think that there were none.  I love how they keep replaying the same exploding video clip.  You have the nuke material, inside the rod (1), under water to produce the steam which is contained (2) then the ultra super thick concrete with iron or steel re-enforcement (3) and then the outer layer of the building (4) which is what blew in the video clip.

I know a guy down here that helped clean up the mess at three mile island and his doctors have always told him he will die of old age before the radiation exposure ever killed him.  He is currently in his late 60's early 70's.

Out here they were speculating on how much danger the U.S. is in. How many in the U.S. suffered when the biggest release of radiation ever was released? I am pretty certain no one in the U.S. suffered ill effects from the bombins in Jappan.

Plus you have to remember that was an explosion planned to spread the stuff.  In a power plant, it just melts down while maintaining itself in it's containment fields.   Watch the greenie freaks go nuts over all this, and not I don't mean the St Patrick Day's people. Wink

I think the death toll from the russian plant was around 60 or so and most of those were from people who stood next to the stuff to put out the fires, some would call them HEROES.

I think that the UN put out a report one time that stated the death toll could reach up to 4,000.  I don't know if it ever got that high.

You have to remember they used graphite to cool the rods, and if I remember right graphite is explosive......

I have a better chance of being killed by the potholes on Walnut Street.
