I was wondering what your opinion is on this? I have been a cashier at one of our local stores for about a year. I have had my share of bad customers, but this woman may have taken the cake. I was on one of the store's expresses. There were three other expresses open. We then started to get backed up. Two elderly women where next in line. I greeted them (like I do every customer). The younger of the two handed me a shirt and a pair of pants. I asked her if she could hand me one at a time, so I can fold them nicely. She tells me that she didn't want to sit them on, because my counter "looked disgusting." I told her I was sorry, but we were really busy and I had no time to clean off the counter. She said that wasn't her problem. I told her again that I was sorry . I scanned the pants and put them in to the bag. Next thing I knew, she threw the shirt at me and told me never to speak to her like that again. Then I got mad and told her never to throw anything at me again.  She then claims that she never threw it and threaten to call to complain and have me fired. She then uses her card. I can hear her talking to the woman she was with saying how upset she was. The other woman never said a word. I then gave her the receipt and told her to have a nice day.

My first opinion is that you should never ask for an opinion on this forum  Grin

Way back in the 50s my brother went to work for my uncle in a store that was sort of a teen hangout. My uncle told him that no matter what the customer was always right UNTIL it was bad enough to take em out side and kick the s*** out of em. W\If it gets that bad then do it.

From what you have said it appears you did okay. Better if you had not said anything negative, but sometimes that is beyond our human makeup.

What I don't understand is what did I say that upset her to through the shirt at me in the first place. I am thinking she was angry at the long line and just blew up.
You know that "customer is always right" thing really gets me.
I have an example. Our store allows WIC. I had a WIC transaction where the customer was supposed to buy low fat milk. They were trying to buy whole milk. I told the customer that we can't do that. They have to get what is on the check. If we allow it to go through and get caught, we can lose our ability to do WIC. I even called a manager and they said the same thing I said.  The customer could have just bought the milk, but they chose not to.

Well obviuosly the customer is not always right. But the customer is always the customer. No business can survive without the customer.  Therefore ................

You know I do like my job. I have met so many new people and even met up with people I haven't seen in years. Heck, I even seen one guy I haven't seen in 16 years.  A lot of the customers know and some even try to find me in the store (we are not a small store).  I just don't want to lose my job over this. I had never had a complaint and had never been couched. My past two performance reviews were good. I give it my all to get the customers out of the line in a timely and respectful manner. I guess I can't please everybody.

Customers who are a bitch beat NO customers.

Sort of like I would sooner play against a poor loser than any kind of winner.

I look at it like this kmadichak, that customer won the battle that day. Your goal should be to win the war. Now you have to decide how to do that.

sounds like she was just spoiling for a fight to me.
I'd just suck it up and let it go,
well, no I wouldn't, but that's what I'd recommend if you like the job and all

Me, I'd toss  her some cleaner and paper towells and say "have at it if you want it cleaner"

Think you have it bad? Everyone should work in a liquor store for a month let alone the 33 yrs that I did and deal with the drunks, pan-handlers and the idiots who come in the day before Christmas and wonder and complain why you are out of certain items. Angry

.......what a big mistake that would be.............the taxes that are collected year after year.....and it keeps getting bigger..........Alleghen y County is still having trouble collecting the drink tax that was established by Onorato.........i cannot see wine and spirits becoming any cheaper than they are now.......how can anyone match their current purchasing power?.......the # of employees that will lose their well-paid jobs with benefits, only to be replaced by Ahmed and his 7 wives and many cousins, or the '**** for brains' kid's hired by wal-mart, who know 'jack-****' about wine and spirits......i could go on and on.......but clearly there are a few people who want the convenience of puchasing these items at the local grocery store and do not see the yearly benefits that the PLCB provides in tax revenue, etc..........get real, get off your lazy ass and travel an extra mile...or better yet, do us all a favor and quit drinking...............o h yeah, the repuke Turd-zai wants to double or triple the # of stores where you can buy alcohol.....to make it more convenient for all the alcoholics to get their fill..........."The Breakfast Club" will be spread this !!!........
