Why don't we try to respect one another.

Consider this. If there are multiple outlets to buy booze, do you think they will all sell it at the same price?

I will wager when one does such "studies" one does not take the tax into account. And you are right it is the tax that is a major part of the price.

I still stand by the principle. Competition tends to lower price - monopoly tends to raise price.

I also feel reasonably certain that multiple outlets will yield cheaper prices UNLESS the state realizes what a gold mine there is in booze tax.And IF they do, better to have the drunks pay the tax than me.

I don't believe that he said uneducated.

That was strictly an embellishment on my part.

..red, everyone pays tax....not jst drunks..MY QUESTION: WHY DOES ANYONE CARE ABOUT CHANGHING CURRENT SYSTEM? how important is the convienence and price of booze anyway? it has workd and revenues have escalated../taxes/. Personally,  n the burgh, there are workers who know wine, spirits, etc. dry, wet, sweet, spicy, warm....they informative and offer some great selection.  Should this even b discussed during a year of record revenue from plcb..and adult book stores....hey, dve..fiction!?? maybe n ur 'richie the rich kid' world....u dont think that scene happens?

Maybe the Commonwealth should have the adult book store monopoly as well. I suppose monopolies are bad unless they're the government's.

I read the bill summary, and it says it will create 850 new tax-paying businesses: 750 retail stores and 100 private wholesale businesses. I find it hard to believe that the state will auction off stores to 750 different “highest bidders.” On the other hand, I can easily imagine Total Wine being the highest bidder for, say, 100 different stores.

I confess I have not bought booze in PA since 1991, but I do remember the state store and it was NOT a place where I received any help except that of the cashier taking my money.

I really do respect government employees and most I have known or worked with were honest, hard working, helpful. But, few if any lived up to their own egos. As a group they seem to think they are above anyone not in government. As backing for what I say just mention doing things in the private sector and you will hear how it just can't be as good as if it is done by government workers. Now really just how well has the TSA worked out? Do you think it would be better or worse if it was done by the private sector?
