Anyone that has sat in a court room knows that the Judge is the boss in that court room and you HAD better play by the rules he sets.  That is the way it has always been and I don't see why they should change that.

Why don't we try to respect one another.

In a courtroom freedom of speech can affect the outcome of the case. Judges are responsible to assure that nothing interferes with the right to a fair trail and they take that responsibility very seriously. I was once told (via telephone) by a judge that I had five minutes to stop the noise or I would be held in contempt of court. Seems the county treasurer had a contractor doing some work with a jack hammer in the building at the same time a witness in a murder trail (who was very soft spoken) was testifying. We had not been advised of the contract so we had no idea what was going on, but we surely found out fast.

Exactamundo...Our freedoms are only our freedoms when they do not interfere with others rights, in this case a right to a fair trial.  I get frustrated when people say that our greatness is that we can say or do whatever we want, whenever we want so long as there are no laws restricting us.  The fact is that our rights come with responsibilities, we can excercise them when they do not infringe on anothers rights.

You know you speak of a level of intelligence that some don't have, hence the kid giving the finger in the court room.......

Had he really thought about it and the consequences of those actions I bet he would have never whipped that baby out there.  It does require some intellect to achieve common sense as to what is appropriate and what is not in any given situation.
