Why do people that in their late 80's or early 90's have preceded in death by their parents in their obituaries isn't that a given? Also died unexpectedly at 93. I am not sure when to expect it but once you are in you 90's you should probaby be thinking death cant be that far away.

When my mother passed I was given the task of writing the obit, well, it was not a standard obit to say the least.  Like I told my sister, if I can't give her several degrees, Honorable this and that then we were not going traditional.  I always was a bit different than my family, but it is what it is.  When the funeral home director sat asking that standard format and I kept saying no to his questions, any degrees etc  I asked to write my own.  My mom was about family and I hope that is what the obit showed. I agree Millcreek, why for formal layout?

The way I see it, Obits try to make the best presentation of a persons life.  People can make any exaggeration they want in an Obit so long as it does not provide or take away from someone else.  With that being said, I wonder what some peoples Obits will, or do, look like.
What will Charlie Mansons Obit say?  Family Man, enjoyed keeping the family together and sharing everyday tasks.
How about Rev Jones?  Team player and great leader, always encouraged people to get out of the city and enjoy the beauty of nature before they pass on.

I do have a witnessed hole in one.  It was a legit shot as well (not a worm burner that rolled into the cup), the ball had a nice trajectory and two hoped  into the cup.  15 at Redgate in Rockville md,   It was a closet to the pin hole at a company outing so I won enough to cover the beers.  I stink at golf my card looked like this ....8, 7, 1, 6, 8 ...

My fathers uncle lived to be 104 years old, so at 90 he still had 14 more years of living.

Reverend Rod Hard
1939 - 2010
Funeral service for Rev. Rod Hard, 70, will be Sunday, January 10, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the Belial Funeral Home in Syphilis. He will lie instate for one hour before the service. Rev. Offensive Accessory will officiate. Burial will follow at Hell's Gate cemetery. Armed guards will be posted at the funeral home and the cemetery, in expectation of riots of hysterical women and enraged men.

Rev. Hard passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at his home following an altercation between him and his neighbor, Mr. Righteous Justified. He was born on August 31, 1939 in Semen, Alabama to Randy Dick Hard and Fanny Snatch. He was a Baptist Pastor for 54 years. In those 54 years, he served seven Churches in seven counties. Well, he served most of the women in those churches, and was enormously dedicated to his service.

Mrs. Scarlett Letter, divorced, a long-time member of Rev. Hard's first church told this reporter that she'd never known another Reverend so committed to servicing all who were in need. She said it never mattered with Rev. Hard what time of the day or night he was called, he was always ready to go. Mrs. Letter also said that he never forgot his flock in any of his churches. If she ever needed him, he was there. Though sometimes, it could be a while before he could get there, as he did have so many who needed him.

Rev. Hard is survived by his estranged wife, Chastity Cherry Once Hard. They had no children. However, he is also survived by his children Long John Hard, Schlong Hard, Wiener Hard, Winkie Hard, Willy Hard, Fanny Hard, Booty Hard, ***** Hard, Twat Hard, and the twins, Ping and Pong Hard. I'm sure there are more, but we can't be certain just who they are.

Mrs. Hard asks that in lieu of flowers, for donations to be made to Mr. Justified's defense attorney.

That is the positive attribute of an Obit.  Unless you, or your ancestors, actually gain anything from the exaggerations, anyone that tries to challenge it looks like a real jackass for nitpicking a dead guy.

I wonder what others would like to have placed in their obit.

Mine should say : He was "almost solely responsible for continued employment, and overtime opportunities, for production and shipping workers involved with Coors Brewing Company while enjoying a seven year binge", he was the economic boom of the 90's  Grin
