I made a comment on the Harris-Boyer building situation on the TD site when that article hit and the response was we don't see what is happening.  Why not combine the 2 meetings and not divide the city again?  The eastern end of town needs some representation on city council but with what has moved into those areas over the years it won't happen.  The West End will continue to get the majority of the attention as long as the community organizers are on council.

I have to agree with Millcreek in that had officials been enforcing the existing ordinances that the town would not be in the overall condition it is.  It is extremely disturbing to me that the town recruits Section 8 residents, why?  Why would you recruit residents that have nothing to offer a community other than utilizing the resources paid for by the work force in town?  I say, get rid of them all and start over in Johnstown.  With the current structure of city management, nothing will change.  Has it yet?  Prime example, other than AAABA what else has happened at the Point this year besides the fireworks on the 4th?...  can we say underutilized!

Its is sad that whole neighborhoods are being ruined by pigs of people. I have seen it my own neighborhood were a couple of lazy worthless slugs let the home go down hill and the city will do nothing about it. Enforce the ordinances fine these home owners until the properties are brought up to code. Blah Blah the city is going to do this the city is going to do that the city doesn't do sh!t.  Angry

I've got the best landlord in town; takes care of his properties and rents to responsible people. Beginning of summer, he moved back to Virginia, but keeps the other half of this house for the 2 or more times a month he comes back. Two weeks ago, he replaced his toilet and water heater. Left the toilet, in pieces, with the trash assuming, incorrectly, they'd pick it up. Left the old water heater discreetly off the back porch anticipating its disposal the following weekend. Before the next week was over he had a notice on the front door threatening fines if he didn't have the two fixtures removed within three days. Apparently someone is pretending to enforce local codes. The question is, why TF aren't they doing it to the properties and property owners that actually need it?

Its pathetic a similar situation happened to me about 5 yrs ago when I was building a chimney and the fat a$$ that came around asked were my blding prmt was? Well I was 30 feet up in the air on scaffolding and said I was just replacing a existing chimney, he said that you need a permit if the chimney wasn't there, I told him to show me a picture of the chimney not being there. He huffed and puffed and left.

Why don't we try to respect one another.

I had an assessment that was too high. I challenged it and the kid (I think he may have been in middle school) started talking about my fireplace. I told him I did not have a fireplace. He insisted I did.

I believe I was very guilty of threatening a public official when I told him what was likely to happen if he called me a liar again.

BTW I am kidding about his age, and this occurred in Iowa.

You want the same threat I gave the kid?  Grin

The assessor had not ever had anyone inside the house. The house was built by the same guy that built one next door. It had an incinerator inside the entryway from the garage. Hence there were two chimneys. The kid never heard of a second chimney without a fireplace.

I threatened to burn his butt (not the word I used) if he called me a liar again.

My assessor looks at recent home sales, never leaves his office much less actually looks at the place.

I have a fireplace and no chimney.

I make up 50% of what i say but all of the above is true.

Oh, we were in his office. He had never been to the house.  Grin

And I did get the assessment lower considerably.
