Nah there is no need to change the welfare system to a voucher system like the WIC program.

I see the abuse daily in the West End.Little kids buying candy, soda and cupcakes and handing over mom and pops access card pin and all.Or the adults decked out in leather coats and gold bracelets/necklaces with not 1 but 2 overflowing carts of top shelf junk food and paying for it with the access card!!!!

Thats why it should be a voucher system. A slip for a head of lettuce a slip for a pound of meat etc etc.

My response, completely off topic and we'll see if they publish: "I notice this editorial doesn't have a name on it. Credibility?"

"Our readers probably have noticed on our news pages over the years that only very rarely do we use “according to an anonymous source” in a story. And if we do, it’s only after much thought, research and agonizing."

I searched the TD site using the key words "anonymous source"

Results 1 - 10 of about 691 from tribune-democrat.com for anonymous source

I guess "rarely" is relative

I guess to be fair i should point out the search came up with a lot of AP news stories and anytime a reader comment was listed as anonymous.

lastly, anybody know where the "Country Market" in Johnstown is?

however, it is sort of funny that the spend half of the text explaining why they should not just go with an anonymous tip and the 2nd half spilling the beans.

"If you don’t have the courage to identify yourself, why should we pay attention to what you have written or submitted? You have no credibility."

ok i googled country market lobster

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/313727-porterhouse-steak-and-lobster-on-food-stamps/

"The receipt from Angeli's County Market in Menominee, Mich"

Maybe the TD should have  gone with their first instinct and not payed any attention to the tip.

better yet i is on snopes

$8.99 for a lobster, this person should be applauded for their thriftiness.

Why don't we try to respect one another.

Guess it depends on the size of the lobster as there are others for much more.

All this shows is that people will get cash any way they can. I wonder what was bought with the cash. I suspect illegal drugs which then would mean that our tax dollars were support illegal drugs.

This surprises anyone?  The Tribune wouldn't even publish facts about the owner of the indoor football league that played this past season in Johnstown.  The proof was right in front of their faces and they didn't even look at them.  My fish still gets warm when I wrap it in that rag.

Who cares what they buy? the fact is they get x-amount of dollars per month and then they have to wait till next month. i am not upset when they buy steak, im upset that they dont get a job and pay for it themselves. Sure some people need help but the problem we have is determining the difference between "need" and fat lazy pig.....
