Just a thought, but maybe the loss of money is less of a concern then the possibility of the books being opened during the investigation.

If that were true then none of them would get caught at being a crook.  Crooks by nature are a stupid lot, and it seems so are politicians it is like they go hand in hand.  hmmmm....
