Associated Press

Senate Republicans likely to kill Obama jobs bill.

I know I have periods of sturdiness, but how can the Republicans kill the jobs bill in the Senate when the Democrats have the majority in the Senate?

Folks we need to reject this kind of biased news reporting.

Ask any senate republican and my guess is they would be proud to take credit for killing Obama's jobs Bill.

Reid is the one that didn't want to even vote on it as it was written but they spin what they spin and only the stupid will fall for those tricks.

May be. BUT, my point is the ridiculous statement that the republicans will kill the bill when even if everyone of them voted against it it could still pass.

Therefore reporting it in the way it was reported is ..... well ..... an out and out lie.

Red, without a link I'm not certain that I found the right story, but it appears that the issue is that Republican Senators can filibuster the bill and it takes 60 votes to stop the filibuster and bring it to discussion and vote..  Democrats have 53.

The story was on my cables news webpage. The story did not mention a filibuster.

I just checked and the story is no longer on the website.

How come the senate minority leader was calling for a vote on this very bill just last week?  I think the part about a fillibuster is a lie.  I have watched several different news channels CNN, MSNBC and Fox and not one of them mentioned a fillibuster. They all did mention the fact that not all Democrats would vote yes on this bill.

Not sure why it is not on Fox, but CNN has the story on their website.  Didn't look at MSNBC or on other sites.

It already happened, last night, and the bill is dead at this time.  There were not 60 votes to advance it past filibuster.

Maybe they just don't bother to state it anymore, but pragmatically, it takes 60 votes to get anything past the Senate due to filibuster.
Now, my problem with filibuster is that they don't ever have to really do it anymore, just threaten it--- if the ones that wanted the given provision to pass so desired, they could actually make the other side in fact put on a filibuster- which means one of those opposed to cloture would have to hold the podium and speak indifinitely about anything until somehow the stale mate was broken. They used to actually do this, but at some point I guess to keep it from freezing all other action, they decided not to require them to actually filibuster, just show that the 60 votes are not there.

To put it bluntly it is a politican showmanship. As I read the articles there was not enough votes to put the item on the floor for debate. It was also stated that the majority party knew before it was even considered that it was not going to go. Therefore it was just an excercise to gain political posotion and not an excercise in how do we solve the problem.

Well ..... DUH .... surprise surprise surprise.

Let's try to find and elect people who actually want to do what is right for the country and not what will further their own or their party's well being.

The blatant hypocrisy of the GOP is what sticks in my crawl. When George Bush was President, anytime a Democrat mentioned anything negative about the nation's economy, it seemed like the GOP and faux news talking heads would start screaming and ranting and raving about "THE DEMOCRATS ARE TRYING TO "TALK DOWN" THE ECONOMY"! Same thing with the war; if someone said anythuing negative about the war in iraq, the GOP and faux news would start crying "THE LIBERALS DON'T SUPPORT OUR TROOPS. IT'S TREASON"!

Obama takes over an absolute mess, and within a year, GOP and faux news starts trashing the economy relentlessly. What? ain't they tryin to "talk down" the economy? As far as supporting ther troops goes; I'd say the best way to do that is to demand that they be brought back home. The USSR was brought to near total destruction by their prolonged occupation in Afghanistan. No army EVER has defeated those warriors in the mountains of Afghanistan. And there has been a lot of great armies that met their destruction in those mountains.

Many hosts of different shows have asked that the troops be brought home. It falls on deaf ears cause Fox News isn't really news now is it?
