Maybe because he didn't think it up?  Or he failed his economics's class?

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_OBAMA_CAIN?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2011-10-18-18-58-05

Obama said that approach isn't new. And he said that across the board he hasn't heard any new ideas on helping the economy from Republicans, either in Congress or the candidates.

Is Obama thinking his approach is new, the old throw good money after bad idea?

Why do you think they all hate it so much?  Is it because it will lower payroll deductions?  Or because they think that it will hurt the poor who if they are that poor would get foodstamps and cash assistance and those could be set up to not have to pay the tax?  It just makes me go hmmmm.  I think they are just all pissed that they didn't think of it first because it sent him soaring ahead in the polls.

Better question, why do you like a plan that would raise taxes for 84% of the population so much?

I don't think I have come out and said I like it, I think I have weighed both the good and the bad about it.  There is some good it drops payroll taxes for everyone which means you get to keep more of your money you earned and drops the taxes Corporations pay and maybe that would bring some more and better jobs back to us.  The bad is a 9% sales tax on top of our state sales taxes.

Am I for or against, I haven't really made up my mind yet.  I don't like the thought of having to pay 15% sales tax on things that I want, I don't want to have to pay 9% on things I need.  I do like the thought of my payroll taxes dropping from 28% down to 9%, even with the 15% sales tax I would still keep 4% more of my income.  When I get my raise it puts me in an even higher tax bracket so I would be able to keep even more of my money I earned.   It has it's good and bad, but I don't know if I like it completely or not.

As far as raising taxes on 84% of people, I would have to see some number crunching on that fact you threw out.  I am sure they would exempt Food stamps and all welfare assistance so the really poor would be protected to some degree.  For the working poor well they don't buy much in the way of luxury items anyway so how would it hurt them much if they can spend a certain amount before having to pay said tax?   I didn't see where they were going to tax any food banks or donations to poor people so they can still get help from churches and friends and family.

It really is a consumer based tax on the sales tax think about all those rich people paying 9% on that $100,000.00 car they buy?  Or when they shop at those really expensive stores.   Like I said it has it's good and bad points but it is something to think about before just turning away from it.

Will this hurt new car sales?  You only pay tax on new not used cars, people will hold onto cars longer.   Not crazy about rolling the 9% sales tax into a car laod and paying more interest on the tax.

I wonder if the tax will apply to new houses.  $18,000 in taxes on a $200,000 home, I will have to take out a second mortgage.

Consignment shops love this plan.  Flea markets will spring up all over the place.

Increase benefits - lower taxes.

I guarantee someone will propose this.

Oh wait they already have.

How many of you political buffs actually believe this?

If you do I have some beach property in Wyoming and the climate is controlled at 70 degrees all year. I'll sell it at a sacrificial price of only $30,000.

Oh yes, I will get you a job at $300,000 per year to help you be able to afford it.

One criticism that I totally agree with is that there is little stopping the Congress from, over time, slowly raising the tax level from 9%.
