I've seen a few other instances like this and it makes me wonder if there was ever serious concern that flooding a normally dry area may merely become very dramatic in the future when the area becomes dry again.

You would be amazed at what is under Raystown lake.  I know the house my family occupied is under there along with all their neighbors house.  We had an outhouse there and no indoor plumbing.    Hey who wants to go swim in Raystown lake?      Shocked

There's one lake in Western Nebraska that after a few years without significant rain or snowfall, you can start to see foundations from the towns that were flooded to create the lake.  But after a few years with heavy rain and snow the lake gets filled up again.  I named this string as I did because these lakes prove that there is at least some significance to the theory of the cyclic nature of our climate.  For there to be an opinion that the science is solved and we need to act now is not really a fair statement and rules out factoring this cyclic nature into the equation for corrective action.

I agree just another dumb theory to throw money at when if left alone it will for the most part solve itself.  Welcome to the era of the human can save the world.

I used to boat at raystown every year. Swim at snyders hollow. I met people who said the same thing - that their house is down there. One summer back in the 80's, i lived at raystown the entire summer. I worked building a commercial building in saxton, then at night i camped out on raystown. Took a bath and brushed my teeth every nite in the lake.
Ate and slept by campfire. There was some hanky panky goin on back in them days. I'm still repentin. Them country girls corrupted me.
