"Conservative activist groups have long insisted that anyone wishing others "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" are waging a "War on Christmas": "

The premise itself is a boldface lie, but maybe you should be asking Conservative activist groups.

I think he still has his freedom of speech and can wish anyone what he wants.

This is as stupid as the one on facebook about if Tebow wins the Super Bowl the Jewish Council somewhere I forget where claims that Christians will be setting Mosques on fire and demanding everyone come to Christ.  It is just another idiot sticking their foot in their mouth over their own personal beliefs and trying to take whomever they can down with them.

Why don't we try to respect one another.

It never ceases to amaze me how we can make an issue of anything.

The is nothing wrong with Merry Christmas unless one is saying it to someone whom the speaker knows such will offend him/her.

And there is nothing wrong with wishes anyone happy holidays.

There is a problem with making the greeting(s) an issue.
