A suggestion to the powers-that-be at Zamias Services, Inc.:  Consider selling to another developer (most unlikely) or invest the funds to completely redevelop adjacent company-owned properties along Scalp Avenue into a major retail power center.

Imagine this:  Level the buildings within University Park Plaza and East Hills Plaza, acquire the property that Auto Palace Nissan previously occupied, and develop a brand-new, beautiful, and profitable mixed retail and residential power center with big-name national tenants and apartment-style condo and townhouse buildings.  This new center would stretch from Route 219 to Theatre Drive along Scalp Avenue.

Giant Eagle, Inc. is reportedly looking into completing a major remodel.  Why not give them a reason to invest more for a new building within a new major center?

A new name such as Marketplace Shoppes East (East Hills Plaza area) and Marketplace Shoppes West (University Park Plaza area) would be quite snazzy.

I’d reckon that Johnstown area shoppers would no longer travel to Greensburg or Altoona with a new power center right here featuring names like Target, Kohl’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Barnes & Noble, Five Below, and eateries including Sonic, Longhorn Steakhouse, and Chipotle.

Shoppers need new, fresh places to shop.  The aforementioned retail plazas are tired, outdated, and stale.  Think big for a brighter future.

I doubt you'll see development on that scale.  That era has come to an end.  Stores like Barnes and Noble are heading towards extinction.

Plus our one percent ain't that big and is paying way too much in property taxes.

Also heard that one about the Eagle going corporate.  Corporate has a stake in it already since the original move over to University Park.  Wonder if they will take the old restuarant area over and try to put in a cafe that can serve alcohol there.

As for Martin's(Giant Corp) and the Auto Palace location that would be a good fit but I have heard that Windber Church of God(or it may be Life Church now) wants to put a new building in that spot.

That rathole Giant Eagle in the West End needs to go corporate before those owners let the roof fall in on the customers someday. Its in need of a major upgrade. They still have a prime location and their only neighborhood competitor, that food stamp center Save-A-Lot should be folding up any time.

More scoop:

Another reason for a new and improved retail complex is the fact that Sheetz, Inc. is reportedly constructing their restaurant/super store format building at the site of the former Cozumel site in the University Park Plaza.  This new location, similar to one in Altoona, will reportedly have alcohol available for purchase.

Sure, let's put some more small businesses out of business! Just like Walmart, they need to be stopped or boycotted!

Is this to replace the new one they were already going to build in that site?

They plan to build the one that was announced in the Tribune-Democrat months ago, tear it down, and then build another one.

They're so wealthy now writing off construction expenses is probably good for them. You can only hide gazillions in profits so many ways.
