I guess this is the best place to post this.  A couple of years ago, April23 gave me a list of some old Johnstown businesses (theatres, restaurants, etc.)  At the time, I put them into an Access Database and then expanded on it from ads in old yearbooks and stuff like that.  Anywho, over the past couple of weeks, I taught myself php scripting and mySQL database so I could put this on the site.  So far I have one search parameter and one sort parameter.  Can I get some feedback, like is this cool or does it totally suck, what kind of other search parameters would be useful, etc.?  Thanks!!!

To me this is more of a local adventure than a local event.

Mr. Johnstown, that's very interesting and I enjoyed learning about places that were in Johnstown I never knew were there.

I had to venture downtown to the post office this morning and saw that the Elks Building was in the process of being demolished. As I watched the building fall, I could only imagine how much history was contained within that building.

Thanks, GF.  I'll add to it as I get stuff.  I just hope Charley's Market doesn't mind that I posted their phone number.

There are a few I noticed missing as well as addresses that may have changed over the years.  One is Block's Deparment Store on Central Ave.  Another is the The Candy Store is now on Market Street.  I know we can all add some things probably.

Tiger, I plan to put all historical addresses in; i.e., the Candy Store has been in mulitple locations, so I will have all of them in there.  This is just the beginning and I hope to keep plugging away, maybe adding ten or so each day.  I'd  appreciate any help with it.

Wow, that's the type of directory I am trying to get my hands on.  I have a 1978-1979 directory and I'm just adding ten or so at a time from it.  I'm not even worried if it's a current business or not, just trying to add everything I can.  If you want to email me anything from it, I'd be much obliged.  Thanks so much for the help!!!

I bought mine at an antique store out on Menocher Hwy. I think they had several but it was also several years ago. I'll dig it out and see what I can do to help you.

Is that the one on the left shortly about a mile from the Menoher Heights fire hall?  It is a little blue building IIRC.
