have you ever wondered how many jobs the defense budget creates?
many many Economists say we would have FAR MORE JOBS if we invested this money into worthy projects

Good Point! Yes, China needs to be checked by us as well as Russia, plus the aggregate of the small crazies who if ever allowed to consoloidate and group would also pose an even more formidible threat. That's why we must never again allow a bona fide state such as Afghanistran was to be a haven and base for the crazies. Money spent on military = money well spent. It is the most basic responsibility of the federal government in the first place, to protect us from outside threats.
Do you realize what your share of the Defense budget really is???
If every American actually had to pay taxes that would amout to a bit over 300 million peoples but you see not everyone pays because either they are too young to hold a job or too old and have retired OR they find ways of avoiding the IRS
Now if you say we are only spending 600 BILLION a year it comes out to sending in $2000 for each and every person in the land and that doesn't even include interest on the borrowed money
Now if that is good to you fine but could American families all buy a more fuel efficient brand new vehicle with this amount if the avg family has 4 persons?

Congressman Murtha might be able to provide that information. Do we now like those jobs or are they still just pork that we don't want?

That's assuming that if the Defense Budget was lower the taxes would be lower. Anytime the need for a tax is removed a new need is created, and that need is usually more expensive and requires more taxes. The budget is debatable but to expect unspent money to return directly to the taxpayer is not realistic.

but Beeker have not Repbubs always promised US that money is better spent in the hands of citizens than by government??
I agree that it might not all come back to the Feds BUT as in GOP thinking would not the money go to buying homes, cars, vacations, colleges, guns and all the other beneficial things AND don't most of those also carry a sales tax to benefit states & local jurisdictions? and the wider range of spending would also create new jobs & income taxes

But you implied that by reducing the defense budget we would all have more money in our pockets. The only thing that could do that is reducing income tax. If all the budgets are reduced then the money collected from the top 30-40% of wage earners is applied to social programs. That would rekindle the "Redistribution of Wealth" argument.
BTW, I think it's very misleading to say that China took over Hong Kong, it was always Chinese lands and was under a 99 year lease to England. The lease ran out and China resumed control.

ok then Beeks maybe we should cut Defense budgets and KEEP taxes where they are - then we could pay down debt, save for a rainy day or pay for other societal improvements
then we would keep the same balance other than Defense getting 50% of the Federal Pie it would go to other things with a POSITIVE RETURN ON INVESTMENT

Since you always know better having all the answers why not go to Washington and make a difference.

Freedom doesn't know any better, he just takes a sentence and spins it around to what sounds best for his ideas and worse for the opposition. It's like Limbaugh or Grayson:

I watched this carpetbagger. If I was one of constituents I would be a little upset. Spending time and money on a SNL skit, and a poor one at that. Get back to work moron.

well if a Saturday night at 11:30PM-1AM skit is considered on the job time for a Congrees person then I guess we truly are getting our monies worth from them and they deserve the finest healthcare money can buy and get all the exceptional job perks like entertaining lobbyists from near and abroad
As for disappointment this is what Obama brought up at the G-20 that WE all must come to grips with - Pax-Americana is going bye bye and it really should start with Afghanistan as we have plenty of work remaining with our Iraq adventure quest

Finally mainstream media putting out pieces saying Afghanistan mission is FUBAR
even saying doubling down on a losing hand is absurd(especially when we all know terrorists readily sacrifice their lives and cannot be bluffed) and the Gov't ruling the country has shown no capability for improving governance
