The naive young President accepts the award.
Now what? What happens next time we get in a situation where we should use our military? He's currently still "considering" about escalating in Afghanistan. What if push comes to shove over Iran and Nukes?
What's going to be at least in the back of his mind?

it was the USA after using WMDs to end WWII that wanted ALL players to sit down in Geneva to determine acceptable methods of warfare, treatment of prisoners(interrogation methods-largely because of the way Japanese interrogators treated US servicemen)

I do not believe their is any stipulation that one must be perfect to get the award only that one exemplifies the spirit of the award - and if it's any comfort to you MLK was shot & killed like many others striving to achieve peace
