Perhaps the whole issue was a publicity stunt from a master of it and the media circus that ensues

Stunt is not out of the question, but I don't believe publicity is the right type of stunt.  What I believe Rush accomplished was to prove that anytime a conservative shows any sign of being influential the liberals will do anything, including stopping Congressional work, to stop that person from excelling.  The Democrats are so insecure that any sign of a Republican being successful has to be stopped.  It's kind of like Penis Envy.
