It will be a boom NOWHERE because if $18 per hour is the prevailing wage the prevailing cost of living will be $36,000 per year or more.

Put simply the economy can not be controlled through legislation and most attempts to do so hurt the lower wage wage segment of society.

"One of the great failures this “neo-liberal” approach to economics has been its inability to create enough jobs to keep pace with population growth."

Complete and utter horseshit, because govt at all levels has prevented "individual entrepreneurial freedoms...essential to the creation of wealth and thus to the well-being of individuals and society as a whole" from being a reality.

pbal, you mean I can't just open my own business and prosper? Isn't that the American Dream?

If WF had his way you would HAVE to open a business and pay $20 per hour , and provide health insurance, and put every employee's kid through college, and buy the family a car for each driver, and, and, and.

Oh yeah, and the employees would not have to come to work if they had something better to do that day.

But the Nanny State rules are what allows some companies to avoid unions and hire illegal aliens.  Amnesty would make many of them legal and then they could join unions, get higher wages and benifits and make NAFTA more profitable, to other countries, by pusing more work out of this country.  Then the whole cycle hits RESET, maybe that's what Hillary meant  Smiley

if Congress were to get ambitious as they have already done in China and put $100B/yr towards high speed rail we would have only 2 legal teams of job creation: 1 for and 1 against

rather than the thousands who could be providing steel rails, buying properties, engineering grades, building locomotives, installing power systems and on & on & on because $100 Billion is NOT loose change

I threw the idea out for comments and it seems ya'll like having mommas work 2 jobs while the kiddies are likely to see a very bleak future unless of course granny is already getting SS checks to keep em straight and take care while momma & poppa is being ground down working for minimum or begging for the OT

Hey, here's another idea - why not run for office and then we'll get the same sheet over and over again but you'll likely get reelected and it is about ME ain't it?

here's a section on our Economic Policy which has created the mess:

"In the United States, moreover, we have had a de facto industrial policy for at least the past two decades—namely, the decision to develop the financial sector as both an engine of growth and an export leader. As in the case of the savings and loans crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s, in which the government spent $125 billion of taxpayer money to liquidate the toxic assets of over 1,000 failed S&Ls, the finance sector is again at the center of a crisis and again drawing massively on the public purse in an attempt to avert economic catastrophe. "

The reason many Indians have been successful entreprenuers is they AVOID the banking institutions and front money to other Indians going to live the American DREAM

There you go with that idiot reasoning again, the government already owns Amtrak and the one line they want to close because it is subsidized  to run Congress won't stop.  If they were smart they would shrink the frakking government, and rein in their private ambitions and do the public service job they were elected to by the rules and limits set forth in the constitution, but that would mean they would want what is best for the nation as a whole and forget about playing to the special interest that line their pockets with worthless paper money.  Yeap we gots us some really smart ones on the hill in DC about as smart as my frakking dog, and she runs into closed glass doors all the time.
